WHAT WE’RE HERE FOR

SlipTrap Theatre exists to champion living, breathing artists in an age increasingly shaped by algorithms and artificial creation. We believe that gathering in a room, and sharing time, attention, and risk, is not nostalgic but necessary.

Our work is rooted in the belief that beneath our divisions lies a profound sameness. We seek stories that illuminate the shared emotional architecture of being human: fear and joy, grief and desire, isolation and connection. In a world that gains from sorting, labelling, and polarizing us, we are drawn toward what unites us.

SlipTrap Theatre resists art created to satisfy systems instead of people. We reject work optimized for metrics, virality, or certainty. Instead, we create theatre that values presence over perfection, empathy over efficiency, and experience over explanation.

We believe that a well-told story allows us to slip the trap.

The trap of automatic thinking.

The trap of rigid identity.

The trap of being told what and how to feel before we have felt it.

Through a surrealist lens, we bend reality not to escape it, but to reveal it. By disrupting logic, time, and form, we invite audiences to encounter emotional truth before intellectual conclusion. Surrealism, for us, is a way of making space for wonder, vulnerability, and recognition.

SlipTrap Theatre does not seek to provide answers. Our work is designed to open questions, to linger in the body and the mind, and to continue unfolding long after the performance ends.

Above all, we strive to be a breeding ground for compassion. We believe empathy is born from shared experience: from seeing ourselves in others, and allowing ourselves to be seen in return. In slipping the trap together, even briefly, we remember our shared humanity.

To “slip the trap” is to refuse the easy patterns we are offered. To step briefly outside the loops that keep us predictable. To practice empathy in a world that cunningly benefits when we lose it.

This is not content.

This is a practice we return to, together.
